The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team has apparently had enough of getting pummeled year in and year out.

Jamelle Elliott, an assistant coach at UConn for 12 years, has been named UC’s new women’s basketball coach. Elliott played on UConn’s first national championship team in 1995 and is known as an outstanding recruiter. She finished her playing career as the school’s second-leading rebounder with 1,054 and 11th-leading scorer (1,387 points). Elliott replaces J. Kelley Hall, who was fired after two seasons at UC.

  1. She’s got her work cut out for her. UC was basically a two girl operation last year with Kayla Roudebush and Jill Stephens. They did pull the stunner in the first round of the Big East Tournament, though…winning as a #16 seed over Marquette. The good news for Elliott is that Roudebush, one of the better guard in the Big East, is back. Gone, though, is Stephens…who was UC’s version of Angel McCoughtry.

For UC fans sake, let’s hope UConn coaches Chris Dailey and Geno Auriemma taught Ms. Elliott a thing or two about building a program from ground up, since that’s the only direction left for the Lady Bearcats to go.
