Kareem Richardson, an assistant at Xavier University, has been picked to succeed Richard Pitino as assistant basketball coach at the University of Louisville.

Before Xavier, Richardson was on staff at Drake, Indiana State, Wright State, Evansville and Missouri-Kansas City.

A few weeks ago, Richardson was among the candidates for the head coaching job at Eastern Illinois, a post that was claimed by Jay Spoonhour, son of the late Charlie Spoonhour, who coached at UNLV, St. Louis and Southwest Missouri.
