Justin Burke had his nervous moment in the Pittsburgh loss, his one and only pass a drive-ending interception.

Got it out of his system. Had something to prove going into the Louisville vs. Syracuse football game, against an opponent expecting a sixth win to become bowl eligible.

Burke had other ideas, needing a shot of confidence, the ability to look in the mirror again. Making good on 13 of 26 pass attempts for 144 yards. Two touchdowns.

Getting the kinks out in the first half, taking a beating in the process, inconsistent protection, fumbling once, no fault of his. Someone napping again on the right side of the line.

Charlie Strong knew Burke had it in him in the fourth quarter, facing a fourth-and-one situation on his own 39-yard line with the clock under three minutes, Louisville needing to retain possession.

“I was going with Justin,” he said. “He had been getting the job done all day long.”

When they uncovered the pile, Burke had gotten the job done one more time.

Never any doubt.

  1. Awesome awesome game, shows how the staff have effected the entire team !
Congrats to Burke and wright for being the next man in-lookiing forward to coming up for the South Fla. game!

  2. Great game, Justin Burke and Wright came through just like i knew they would, there was also a Vic Anderson sighting at the game.Vic made a couple of key runs, which helped us control the clock,Josh Chichester also stepped his game up and came up big today. All in all a good victory today against a good Syracuse team.

  3. I missed the first half because of a funeral but he sure looked good in the second. May have been getting the kinks worked out in the first 20 minutes. Watching the entire game later on replay. Nice win. Would not have enjoyed losing to Syracuse.

  4. The first half Burke was not what we needed (5 for 14 for 61 yards, a fumble and an intentional grounding)

But he sure played well in the second half (8 for 12, 83 yards and much more in control).

    Funny how that happens.
