Isn’t it amazing how fast things can change in the whirling, swirling world of college football?

In just a few weeks or even days, everything can be so different. Like for instance, the doldrums Western Kentucky football fans were in until it was announced that Willie Taggert is the new head football coach. Do you think Bowling Green is lit up like the Fourth of July or what? They’ve already forgotten about the long losing streak and they’re expecting to blow open the Sun Belt Conference next year!

Now following that line of thought, just exactly what do you think the Wizard of College A.D.’s, Doctor Tom Jurich, has up his magical sleeve? One thing is for sure, when he’s in a hole as deep as this one, he’s not about to try to climb out of it using a step stool. It’s going to take a very long extension ladder to get out of this one and back to the top of the Big East Conference.

And it must happen fast. Like in the next eight days or less.

Let’s cut to the chase. My guess is he’s already got “the guy”. In fact, Tom has had him locked up for about the past four or five weeks. It’s mostly a handshake deal right now but it’s solid because “the guy” not only “gets it” but, he’s also fired up about it and itching to get started.

How do I know that? Because Tom is one of the best salesmen to ever shake a hand. Jurich is a genius at selling big picture possibilities. He’s a master of getting people excited about his ideas. And ultimately it’s his sincerity and conviction that close the deal.

So who is “the guy”? Let me answer that question with a question. Are you one of the guys who said he’d never get Pitino? Be honest. Are you one of those? Then hold on to your hat, hotshot. Think real big then buckle up for a wild ride. In eight days or less. Yep.

  1. Paul, Charlie, and Tom; are you guy just surmising that TJ will get a big name or do you know something?

    1. If I told you, I would have to leave the country. Tom S. worked closely on U of L’s TV deal when it was with Fox 41 and other matters in the past and knows how he operates. Paul had a couple of beers with TJ in the past month and knows TJ can hold his own.

      1. So many boards are sure it’s Charlie Strong…I just don’t see him putting butts in the seats…but what do i know.

  2. Mike Leach would be the Dream. I just hope he closes his eyes, clicks his heals, and says “There no place like the Ville.”

  3. Reb, the Kragthorpe Football Era is over Friday! Now we just wait until the new coach’s name is announced.

  4. There is a lot of wishful thinking out there in Cardinal Land. Too much fantasy football. Krag will convince TJ that he can win 8 games next year and he will be back. Success is just around the corner.

    1. Wrong, Reb…too many no-shows this year. TJ needs to fill 55,000 seats next year. Mediocre ain’t enough. Hang on.

  5. I honestly believe that Jurich hasn’t returned from Tampa yet so that he could finalize the deal with “whoever” far away from the maddening crowd here locally.

And Charlie’s right on line. It will be a name that Cards fans will be overjoyed with.

    1. Notre Dame will be (or is already) hot after Kelly. My guess is that it’s a blank check…Kelly puts the number in. Michigan & others are after him, too.
