The Cardinal Bird is dancing, the Cards are dancing.

The most recent person underneath the Cardinal Bird gear was Jon Cecil, a marketing major from Murray, who graduated from the University of Louisville this spring. Below is a photo of Jon, who also served as president of the L-Raisers, the student-powered hell-raising group.yte04f5f1.gif

Good job in both roles, Jon. Fans appreciated the hundreds of souvenir T-shirts, mini-basketballs and mini-footballs you tossed into the crowds over the years. Those parachute jumps 🙂 before kickoffs were pretty impressive, too.

Thanks for your enthusiasm during your Cardinal Bird career and adding greatly to the fun of attending U of L athletic events.

  1. Wow, I was just searching images of the Cardinal Bird and I stumbled across this article. Thank you all so much for the mention! It really means so much to me. That is unbelievable. I hope that I was able to bring a little more excitement to the time outs and between innings for everyone. And it was a pleasure signing autographs and high fiving kids. Thank you for letting me know it meant something to you. Go CARDS!!! Yours,
    Jonathon Cecil

P.S. My sister goes to Murray, I’m actually from Louisville and live currently in New Alban, IN.

  2. Wish you well Jon! I remember meeting you for the first time. Maybe my P-Pa can put the picture on there. Have a great time out there in the big world! 🙂

  3. I know Jon’s sister well. I have worked with her at playhouse in the park, (Murray, Kentucky).

  4. Charlie,

You and your readers may want to ck out a post I made today:

Baseball in Louisville–Why We Care So Much

As the Louisville Card Nine start another improbable run into the NCAA, fueled by coach Dan McDonnell’s brilliance, some people still ask…

“Hey, what’s the big deal? Who cares about baseball anyway in this community?”

Well…sit back and let me tell you a bit about why we care–a lot.

As America flexed its young muscles and bounded onto the world stage entering the 20th century, three sports dominated the public imagination: Boxing, Horse Racing, and Baseball.

And Louisville stood at the forefront in all three….
