Mike Marra having the game of his career, with his five three-pointers, living up to those Rick Pitino expectations.

Open for a dunk, ready to add his exclamation mark and his 24th and 25th points. What does he do? Bounces the ball to a surprised Tim Henderson who blows the shot.

Moments later, transfer Chris Smith, also enjoying the game of his career, passing up his 12th and 13th points. Open for a layup. Passes up the shot, tossing to Henderson who will make the layup for him.

On the next play Henderson steals a pass, taking the ball the length of the court for his next basket. The bench giving the walk-on a standing ovation.

That kind of University of Louisville basketball team, with outgoing, unselfish players, people enjoying their mutal success.

  • Five players scoring in double figures, including Peyton Siva, Rakeem Buckles and Terrence Jennings.
  • Preston Knowles taking only six shots, but hitting three of them.
  • Buckles with 14 rebounds, Jennings with nine.
  • Gorgui Dieng with five fouls, claiming he has only three, the bench bending over in knots.
  • Rick Pitino promising an investigation into Dieng’s foul situation.

Love it.

  1. I never thought I would feel that a UofL win would be boring but that second half seemed to last two hours.

With the exception of Butler, who doesn’t seem to be anywhere as good as predicted, we have played five teams that really stink. I have no clue what we are, who we are and won’t have a yardstick until next Saturday.

I swear next year’s early schedule is going to include Atherton, St. Francis (the east Louisville high school not the PA college), the Brown School (JCPS variety, not the Ivy League one), and the Little Sisters of the Poor as promoted by Gordon Gee.

    1. Duke, defending national champion Duke, had a harder time yesterday with the Bulldogs than we did. They will still be a pretty good, well-coached team and we dispatched them rather easily- at least the Cards made it look easy.

I would like to see a UNC or Michigan State in the out-of-conference schedule too but these early games provide lots of PT for the bench and maybe prevent some injuries to players we will need come Big East time.

  2. Sorry didn’t see an edit button but forgot to add. They NCAA should give Dieng 2 extra fouls to give in any game that he chooses.

  3. Wondering if the NCAA and UofL will be able to move fast enough in the investigation on the scorers table mistake in giving Gorgui Dieng five fouls. When it was clear by all UofL fans and Dieng himself that he only had 3.
