Appears that athletic director Mike Alden is taking a little heat with his hiring of Frank Haith as the man to replace Mike Anderson as the new basketball coach at Missouri, according to a recent Kansas City Star report.

The issue is relevant here because Haith hired University of Louisville assistant Tim Fuller as his primary recruiter. Also, there is talk on Missouri message boards that MU may be talking with Tony Woods, the former Wake Forest center, whom Rick Pitino has been considering as an addition to the U of L roster.

An email sent to Missouri media outlets — including The Star — on Monday said some students were considering staging a protest outside the curator’s meeting, “a peaceful but adamant rejection of Frank Haith.”

Tim Hyder, an MU alumnus from Kansas City, described the selection of Haith — in contrast to Missouri’s ill-fated courtship of Purdue coach Matt Painter last week — was like “going from a Mercedes to a Prius.”

“Where is our commitment to being the best we can be?” Hyder said in an email to The Star.

Haith was reportedly on the hot seat at Miami where his team had been invited to the NCAA Tournament once in seven seasons. He had a 129-101 won-lost record overall and  a losing record in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Missouri Board of Curators was set to meet with Alden on Monday with some “hard questions” about the hire.

  1. Tim just never did seem to fit in. I never saw him coaching anybody or talking with the other coaches. Puzzling presence on the bench.

  2. Everybody wants in on the act, even Missouri. Let a school have one or two good years and they think they are a basketball power. Yuk yuk yuk.

  3. The fun fact to share here is that Mizzou hasn’t had any relevance in basketball since the Norm Stewart days. Quin Snyder, the wonder boy, has gone from the Big 12 to the NBA “D” league. Hardly a right step in one’s coaching resume. Louisville could care less about Fuller and his job change. We’re an adidas school, not Nike….

  4. This story is a lame attempt to try yo keep Tim Fuller from not taking any of his Louisville recruits with him to Mizzou.

    1. It would be lame if that were true. Hardly concerned about Missouri. Fuller is of some interest here because he was an assistant. Good luck in the basketball wars.
