David-Derrringr-2For serious tailgaters like David Derringer, preparations are under way.

Finally.

A night game, against a respected opponent, and on national television. Football weather an added bonus.

Where University of Louisville football wants to be, needs to be, deserves to be.

Center stage on every TV screen in every bar and nightspot in the country, from the Las Vegas and Atlantic City gaming palaces to the big screens around Times Square, the football meccas in SEC country and Texas, to the hills and hollows of West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky.

A rare opportunity this season to sway the doubters, the disbelievers and the skeptics that this University of Louisville football team is for real. A chance to prove that Teddy Bridgewater is the best. That this football team has one of the better defensive units in the country.

Rutgers will be a major challenge, coming to town with a 4-1 won-lost record, renewing a rivalry that has resulted in some major ups and downs for UofL football in the past. Who will ever forget that last second field goal in 2006 that possibly prevented Louisville from playing in a national championship that year? This team will be taking Rutgers seriously.

The basketball creep will freeze in place for at least one day, with Louisville joining the rest of the country in bowing to the pigskin, the king of sports.

No fake juice, something to play for this week. Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium will be rocking.
