Wearing face masks is no guarantee of anything but it would be a positive step if one wants to see college football this fall. The possibility of University of Louisville football at Cardinal Stadium in two months should be a motivator.

Sorry some folks can’t see the value for wearing a face mask during a pandemic. One of the few ways a person can help bring an end to the ongoing threat,  protecting themselves and others. Plenty of incentive to wear them, especially for those with children, parents or friends in the vulnerable categories. Most of us, in other words.

That’s true, regardless of one’s political affiliation, liberal or conservative, red neck or hipster, academician or self-made, woke or reasonable. It was obvious from the start that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) was fibbing about masks not being necessary. They were simply trying to protect medical professionals, making sure there was plenty of protective equipment for them. Small wonder the CDC has lost a lot of credibility.

Coincidentally, society is under severe stress from racial tensions. Even worse that local and state governments are unwilling or unable to bring an end to all the chaos. Too many of the demonstrations earmarked by violence and destruction, with no clear leadership or direction.

Without question contributing to the health threats at a time when universities and school systems are desperately attempting to return to some semblance of normalcy. Essentially super virus spreader events, compounding and feeding the pandemic.

Not much is certain about how Covid-19 is spread and how long it will be around, and that’s not good. Who knows when a vaccine will be available. Unfortunately, in our microwave society, people tend to lose focus quickly, as if somehow their patience with the disease has worn thin even as it continues to claim so many victims. Nameless victims until it’s too late, and the virus hits home.

Wearing a face mask is not about vanity, politics or convenience, it’s about caring about and protecting other people. Hopefully, Cardinal Stadium will be full of face masks, red and black or whatever, on Wednesday, Sept. 2 for the opening game against North Carolina State.

For Cardinal fans, there’s a variety of nice face masks available for Cardinal fans at the Card Game affiliate store. A good way way to protect yourself and others while showing your support for University of Louisville athletics … and Card Game as well.

  1. Thanks for your opinion again, David. We value your contributions. I believe you are referring to one company’s CYA policy of going the extra mile to protect itself against lawsuits. As noted, I will take a mask over a non-mask any day.

  2. Be careful about which UofL mask you get. One, called “Fan Mask” contains a warning: “Fan Mask is a fan accessory that has not been cleared for medical use by the US Food & Drug Administration (the FDA). Fan Mask is not intended to be used as medical grade Personal Protective Equipment, commonly known as PPE. The use of Fan Mask is not intended to replace other recommended measures to limit the community spread of COVID-19, such as social distancing, washing your hands and refraining from touching your face. Fan Mask should be washed after each use. You should thoroughly was your hands after touching your Fan Mask. Please visit the CDC website for more information.”

In short, don’t waste your money buying Fan Mask.
