For those concerned about issues surrounding the football program, Tom Jurich, vice president of athletics, has this message in the university’s recently-released Status Report of the University of Louisville Athletic Department:

“Speaking of our football team, I know many of you are anxious to have us back among the country’s elite. I assure you, no one wants that more than I do. We are in the process of building a program that you can be proud of on and off the field. We see the light at the end of the tunnel and we ask your patience.”

Whether that means Jurich believes Steve Kragthorpe will turn things around or Jurich has already lined up a successor for the current football coach is anybody’s guess. But it’s obvious that Jurich is going through the motions of giving Kragthorpe a chance to redeem himself. Three seasons seems reasonable to all but the unreasoning.

Too soon to make firm commitments of any kind. When the time does come, however, Jurich will be more than ready.
