The dry spell about to come to an end for University of Louisville sports, and it couldn’t happen soon enough.

No conference realignment banter this summer, no scandals involving coaches or players, many of us content with reruns of the Sugar Bowl or NCAA championship videos. The Cardinal Caravans seem like such a long time ago. Thank goodness for the Michael Dyer move or there would have been little to contemplate.

The die hards are desperate for football practice to begin, finally to chew on. Not that all the UofL players being named to pre-season watch lists is boring, they are just fill in lists to break the monotony.

Bloggers feel it more than anyone, this one fighting off the urge to regurgitate the news releases from the SID’s office. When everybody is writing about the same thing, nobody is being creative. When the most interesting topic of the day is which number an incoming transfer will wear, well, things have slowed to a crawl.

The dog days seem even longer this year. Maybe it’s the letdown after such tremendous highs with spectacular success in almost every single sport. Some great accomplishes but the past is in the past. Much more to be done.

That’s why there will be a great turnout of fans when Charlie Strong opens football practice at 5:30 next Tuesday. Let’s get it started again.
