Derwin Webb has been associated with a few losing causes in his young life but probably none as futile as representing Louisville Metro Council member Judy Green.

Derwin Webb

Webb, a member of the University of Louisville basketball team from 1989 to 1993, is the attorney defending Green who has twice been excoriated by the Ethics Commission for blatant misuse of public funds to benefit herself and family members.

Green is refusing to resign and is expected to be adjudged by her colleagues next month. From all indications, she has no qualms about further embarrassing her associates and wasting public resources.

Webb was Green’s first guest on her new WLOU radio talk show over the weekend, taking the opportunity to tell her she had the right to remain silent. Which she ignored, of course.

Among his other clients have been former Louisville football players Isaac and Jacob Geffrad who were charged with assaulting teammate Patrick Grant a couple of years ago in the locker room at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Webb was a forward on the 1990-91 team that compiled a 14-16 record, the first losing season for U of L in 50 years.
