So our guys were occupied with the latest release of the Call of Duty video game last week.

That, combined with three wins a row, probably accounts for the obvious lack of focus against Pittsburgh in a game that could have moved the University of Louisville football team into a tie for first place in the Big East Conference. Who’s worried about Pitt, we’ve got it going.

Getting acquainted with the new features in  Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare release, described as “the most anticipated game of all time,” took priority. Some first-person shooters probably pulling a couple of all-nighters, neglecting classroom assignments as well.

But as Charlie Strong noted, they will toss the video game aside in a couple of weeks. Life will go on, but the football season could be over.

So we see the angry side of Charlie Strong again, irate about a lack of maturity, forced to react to inept offense, a regressive defense, a return of silly penalties and another inexplicable loss. Following a game in which he was being tossed around in the locker room following a big win.

They seem to respond best when the man is upset, quickly forgetting what made success possible. Better to temper the celebrating because it comes back to haunt the coach. The one with the fiery look in his eyes is the one they fear and respect.

The video game? There’s always a new and improved version in the works, just more of the same.
