Ah, so that’s what it’s going to look like.

Mark the date, July 16th. All but a dozen or so of the chair backs have finally been installed at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. Between 12,000 and 12,500 of them in place on the new second level.

Tough job. Wet spring, scorching all summer not making the job any easier. The iron supports for each unit requiring at least eight bolts, the plastic chair backs the obligatory screws.

The fittings need to be tight because the place is going to be rocking Sept. 4 when the Louisville and Kentucky football teams knock heads.

Here’s the video version:

  1. The reason why the seats have taken so long is because when you have 10,000 seats they have to be run through a production line. We just got the last shipment last week as you can see. There are about 300 more seats to install plus all the numbering. It’s hard to see but there are aluminum removable platforms on the cross-aisle that have yet to receive their seats along with a few of the rows in the front. All seats will be in and 100% complete by the 31st.

    1. Thanks for the explanation. We knew there had to be a logical reason for the time it was taking. We’ve waited decades to see the stadium reach this level but we’re still like kids wanting to open their Christmas presents early.

      1. Beware Charlie, Anonymous did not specify the month! The 31st of……? He could be setting you up for further disappointment! 😉

        1. Nah, Tom. I got my picture of what looks like a done job. Just need to make sure my two seats are still where I left them after giving these guys so much grief.

  2. Charlie –
I love your ongoing rant about finishing up the seat installations. It’s as though they know they’ve got your goat and are going to string it out. Here’s betting that the last one goes in the morning of the UK game! 😉

    1. Tom, you have my number. From the video, the small photo and the naked eye, it looks like the seats are all in. But when you enlarge the photo and then click it again to make it extra large, only then do you see that all the seats are not in. I think they have the apprentice guys, the ones with the least seniority, doing the seat installation. It has been a grueling process for sure.

      1. Charlie, being from Louisiana I appreciate the stadium updates. I lived in Louisville from 1992-1995 before moving back home to the Bayou State. With the new arena and football stadium expansion it appears UL is placing itself as a front runner in the conference expansion race.

I do have a question for you; Is the North End Zone video scoreboard the original at PJCS or has it been upgraded? If it has been upgraded what are the dimensions?
        thanks, jeff

        1. Jeff, nice to know you’re still keeping up with the Cards. Let us hear from you more often. As for the north scoreboard, it was doubled in size at the beginning of last season. My rough guess is that the size is about 10 feet x 30 feet. That’s very conservative. They have upgraded the speaker system which is located at that end of the field. Here’s a photo of the scoreboard:
