Western Kentucky owns a 39-36 advantage in the basketball series with the University of Louisville. The Friday game was a probably a good example of how UofL lost a half dozen of those games.

Not taking WKU seriously, thinking UofL has moved out of the same hemisphere, believing all they had to do was show up, go home and unwrap those Christmas gifts.

Sorry, guys, but WKU takes the game seriously, knowing you play down to the level of your opponents, taking advantage of the fact that it’s much too easy to take WKY lightly.

Clawing back from 10 and 12-point early deficits in the first half to finally getting the lead, UofL stretching it to 10, only to doze off again, letting WKU back in, sweating it out some unnecessary drama though the closing minute.

  • Gorgui Dieng came close to taking over when Kyle Kuric had to go to the bench with four fouls, assuming a leadership role, keeping his team from losing its poise.
  • Russ Smith following Dieng’s que, hitting the difficult shots, winding up with 23 points. Two steals offset by four turnovers, however.
  • The play of Peyton Siva continues to be a little concerning, with six turnovers and two-for-seven shooting. He’s also getting somewhat predictable, not good with him slowing down so obviously.

Couple of days off for Christmas for the Cards who almost got in the holiday spirt too early.

  1. The play of Peyton Siva is more than a little concerning. It’d down right pitiful. He’s more of a liability when he’s in the line-up. Russ Smith has it all over Siva. I watch Siva drive the lane and then a turnover. Over the last two games, Siva has played 69 minutes and scored 5 points and has had 10 turnovers. Ugly! That kind of performance is a huge liability. Buckles played 16 minutes last night and scored 6 points – more than Siva in the past two games. Not sure what is going on with him but if the Cards have any chance to beat UK, Siva better step up his game in a BIG way – score some points and quit turning the ball over! Georgetown is now coming to town and bringing a better shooting percentage, less turnovers, and higher scoring. Hope the Cards aren’t looking past this game. I hope the College of Charleston and WKU games will help the Cards play smater and better. And it’d probably help if they practiced some basics – like free-throw shooting. Still undefeated and highly-ranked – let’s stay there. Go Cards.
