A vacationing University of Louisville basketball fan who gave his tickets to friends for the Louisville-Northern Kentucky exhibition game later apologized to them for the conditions on the third level. As are others, he was upset with the continuous blast of cold air spectators were treated to on that level.

The observer experienced firsthand the conditions during the Red-White scrimmage. They were not pleasant. Hopefully that has been fixed by now.

The first level is perfect climate-wise, but departing the courtside areas after games and concerts is tedious at best, with long, lingering lines to only two exits at opposite ends.

The architect apparently sacrificed space in these aisles for more spacious corridors. Getting out quickly or even in a timely manner is impossible.

It is a pedestrian traffic jam, with the potential for all kinds of problems. One can only imagine what it will be like with UofL and University of Kentucky fans leaving in close proximity after the Dec. 31 rivalry game. Definitely not pleasant.

If, heaven forbid, you’re ever in a fire on the first level, head for the basketball court. There are huge entrances/exits leading to and from the playing area, and presumably out of doors at some point.

One of the announcers on the Sunday telecast of the Louisville-Providence soccer match said UofL used to be known primarily for its basketball.

“Now the name Louisville is associated with big-time college soccer,” he said.

Local sculptor Ed Hamilton was among the fans attending a pre-game reception for former Lady Card All America Angel McCoughtry in the Spirit Room on the third floor of the KFC Yum! Center.

Which brings up the question about what’s happening with the statue of Angel that Tom Jurich promised Lady Cards’ fans on McCoughtry’s senior night ceremonies.

Hamilton and Jurich apparently had a brief conversation at the Homecoming football game against Memphis. “Tom said he had something he wanted to talk to me about,” said Hamilton. “I’m surprised he hasn’t called me yet.”
