Recruiting visits to the University of Louisville’s Belknap Campus are much nicer today after completion of $2.5 million in Eastern Parkway improvements, specifically the overpass adjacent to the old Parkway Field which U of L shared with the old Louisville Colonels baseball franchise.

According to a Courier-Journal report, the improvements were part of an overall $7 million campus beautification effort begun during the gubernatorial administration of Ernie Fletcher and continued under Steve Beshear.

The Eastern Parkway improvements:

  • A redesigned traffic flow with a new raised median and ornamental concrete railings, with bike lanes in each direction.
  • Extensive repairs to the CSX Railroad bridge spanning Floyd and Brook streets. A wider bridge deck has been constructed to accommodate expanded sidewalks
  • Installation of a raised median with decorative fencing between the traffic signal at the Speed School entrance and Third Street.
  • Sidewalk improvements, new street lighting, bus shelters and wall decorations.

  1. No more human Frogger at Speed… I was there yesterday admiring the improvements, and drove over the bridge after attending class. The speed limit has also been lowered to 25… about time.
