Interim Big 12 Commissioner Chuck Neinas was in front of a microphone Friday discussing issues. Read between the lines in his comment on conference expansion, draw a conclusion, but wait until he returns to the podium again:

On what is the best number for expansion, 10, 12, more? “I can only go by what I’ve heard. The Big 12 seems to think 10. At least for them. The Super Conference idea, relative to expansion, I’m not in position to make an honest judgment. I know the conference has an expansion committee.”

Dodds [Texas) said his preference is 10. But Oklahoma’s David Boren and OSU President Burns Hargis both said they preferred 12.

  1. Like a politician he is saying only what you want to hear. So that means he really isn’t saying anything.

  2. Charlie, what do you ultimately think he ment with this choice of wording? I tend to believe he’s not going to answer any question directly until all the kinks are ironed out.

    1. I think it means he had spoken with Texas that wants to expand by one but hadn’t yet talked with Oklahoma which reportedly wants to add three. I’m hoping this is one of the points Texas is willing to concede in the interest of conference unity?
