One more win and the University of Louisville baseball team is back where it belongs — in the championship game of the Big East tournament. But first U of L has to get past St. John’s for a second time Saturday after defeating the Johnnies 7-5 earlier in the day.

  • Leadoff hitter Adam Engel reached base safely in his 10th consecutive at bat during the tournament before his streak ended in the eighth inning.
  • Righthanded freshman Jeff Thompson of Greenville, Ind., picked up his second win after relieving Cole Sturgon in the fifth inning, allowing no run on three hits.
  • Jeff Gardner and Ryan Wright each had two hits and two runs batted in.
  • The unanswered question for now is whether St. John’s coach Ed Blankmeyer will be on the sideline. He was ejected in the third inning after bumping an umpire. Shades of a year ago when Dan McDonnell was ejected, missing the next game.
