Something major always happens in basketball around here to distract from the opening week of the football season. Always something.

Last year Rick Pitino announced during the first week of September that he had hired a former mentor to recruit Marquis Teague, presumably to make it difficult for Teague to turn him down. We all know how that turned out.

Are you ready? Quincy Miller, a highly-rated 6-foot-9 prospect from Westchester, N.C., is saying he wants to play for the same team as Deuce Bello, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard and his current teammate in high school. This is relevant here because Bello has indicated that he may make a commitment to Louisville on Sept. 4. See Zag’s Blog,

Big time distraction, especially for the basketball-first crowd.
