No, but hang on U of L back seat drivers, it looks like we are positively on the way!

A few highlights from the Utah game prove it. First, I am a huge Justin Burke fan. He is proving to be an excellent passer who also isn’t afraid to tuck it and run without the sissy slides at the end. Think of what he could do if he had just two things – an offensive line and any other offensive coordinator.

Second, we have great trick plays like the one where a falling Scott Long flips the ball over his head to Cameron Graham who runs it in for a score. It’s true that no current U of L coach can take credit for that play. Jeff Brohm drew that one up before they canned…uh before he left.

True, our defensive backfield tackles like middle school girls afraid of breaking a nail. And, true, this is the third year in a row that our corner backs seem to standing around like they’re waiting for a bus, but now you’re nitpicking.

After all, there are encouraging signs from the top guy. At his post-game press conference Coach K never once used the word “ass” proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he truly is a nice guy. So now I am definitely going to ask if I can borrow his hedge trimmer.

Finally, for those of you Negative Nellie’s who are constantly belly aching that we’ll never be considered with teams like Idaho State, Western Carolina, New Mexico, Rice, Tulane and East Texas…keep the faith. We will get there. Just be patient. Okay so maybe this year we’ll have to struggle to make 5-7, or we might have to settle for 4-8, but I’m almost absolutely sure that we may have have the right guy.

Stay positive, fans. It won’t be many more years before we’re back to the glory days of 6-6.

  1. 6-6 sounds pretty good about now. I love these guys and I want them to succeed but they play like deer blinded by the headlights. Can’t play wishing and hoping. Have to make it happen.
