Justin Amlung just may be coming back to the University of Louisville baseball program. He has yet to sign a contract with the Cincinnati Reds.

That would be great news for U of L baseball fans. And it would spare Amlung the ordeal of at least one year in minor league baseball.

He chose not to participate in Friday’s game in Boston in order to focus on whether to continue his collegiate career or sign a professional contract, according to a news release from the university.

Amlung was the U of L’s ace last season, compiling a 10-2 record and a 2.31 ERA in 15 starts.

The deadline for the major league teams to sign players is Aug. 15.

One more reason to pull for the Chicago Bears.  Former U of L defensive lineman Amobi Okoye will be at Soldier Field this season, leaving the Houston Texans after four seasons.
