UofL plays for national championship Sunday

Aaron Horton

Hang on, Louisville.

Almost there.

The University of Louisville is in the NCAA championship soccer game for the first time ever.

Aaron Horton with still another game-winning kick, this one from about eight feet out, with only 51 seconds on the clock.

University of Louisville 2, North Carolina 1.

Set up perfectly by a 20-foot pass from Ryan Smith in the center of the field, Horton blasting the ball on the left side of the goal past a helpless UNC goalie.

Here we go, you know what comes next, the unbelievable for fans, the expected for the coach and members of this special team, a chance for the heavy hardware.

Austin Berry had scored UofL’s first goal at the 57:12 mark of the second half, hitting a header with an assist from Dylan Mares on a corner kick.

It was Aaron Horton, remember, who punched a ball through a mob of UCLA defenders a week ago with 53 seconds left to give Louisville a 5-4 victory and its first trip to the Final Four.

His third goal of the season, historic, sending UofL to the national championship game.

Sunday, 4 p.m., center stage.
