Big birthday for the observer. Really big one.

A light day, caught up on work, no pressing obligations. Going to enjoy this one. Much to celebrate, good health,  challenging job, a loving wife, a great son and family and four grandchildren. Opening gifts (which will include an NCAA commemorative baseball bat he hopes), dinner and a movie later.

Especially great being a University of Louisville fan, knowing the Cardinals are headed to the Atlantic Coast Conference. No school or athletic program more deserving. Never could have imagined it happening a few decades ago. Something to look forward to every day.

Still marveling in another national championship, thanks to Rick Pitino’s wonderful cast of characters, a BCS Sugar Bowl win over Florida for Charlie Strong’s football team, and some incredible NCAA tournament wins by Jeff Walz’ women basketball team. We were there, too for the UofL’s baseball team’s 4-3 win over Indiana Wednesday.

Between life’s challenges, there are a lot of good times. Including the NCAA call of the NCAA championship game by Paul Rogers and Bob Valvano:

  1. Congrats and welcome to the old dudes club, Charlie! Keep up the excellent blog, and don’t let a number define you…

  2. Your spirit speaks of a much younger man and, after all, that’s what really matters! I pray you feel (healthwise) as good as you think and speak, Charlie. If so, it should be a good milestone to pass, indeed.

From one among many avid consumers of your product, thank you, Charlie, for enriching this magical carpet ride we have been on here with all things Cardinal. Here’a also hoping you get that most fitting gift, because you ARE a Louisville Slugger!

    Happy Birthday!
