Football is back, if only for a day.

Six months of college basketball is almost too much, nearing the over-saturation point, especially when most of the games that matter most occur after getting knocked out of the NCAA tournament. Aggravated by the fact that a nearby rival reaches the Final Four and the ups and downs this past week within the U of L basketball organization.

A break in routine couldn’t have occurred at a better time.

No one really knows much about Charlie Strong’s team going into the spring football game, except that U of L lost a lot of seniors from last season’s team and that there are a lot of players recovering from off-season medical procedures.  The coach really hasn’t said much about how things have been going either.

What we do know is that Strong’s team greatly exceeded expectations during his first year. The vast majority of his staff is back, some having been tempted by other programs, choosing to stay, buying into what their head coach is doing. Knowing improvement will continue, recognizing, appreciating a great situation, looking to the future.

No lack of challenges. Breaking in new quarterbacks, toughening up a new offensive line, replacing key players in the defensive backfield. Meshing them with a truckload of talented wide receivers, lots of veterans on the defensive line, and some promising running backs. Gonna be fun.

Football. Continuity. Welcome back.

  1. And not a moment too soon. Looking forward to see just how good some of these newcomers are.

    Just no tackling allowed! 🙂
