The University of Louisville Foundation agreed Wednesday to buy property at Byrne Avenue., across Floyd Street from Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, for a proposed soccer stadium. The three plots at 331, 333 and 337 Byrne were purchased from Marco Inc., for $1,050,000. Tom Jurich has said he wants the stadium to include 5,500 seats, including a berm.

Meanwhile, Ken Lolla’s team is preparing to square off against Providence in the existing stadium Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Big East Soccer Championship tournament.

  1. Tom, I believe the sketch was done before this specific site was selected. Previously TJ had indicated the stadium would be in the new parking lot across Floyd Street from the football stadium. This one is at least a block further north, across from the indoor practice facility. A couple of folks say it the Martco site. The rendering is probably close to what the final product will look like, except that it may face another direction.

  2. Appears to be fronting on Floyd, if the sketch is accurate. I believe this is the old Delmonico factory site, which was torn down and a new surface lot installed thereon last year or the year before. Right? More property may have been bought as part of this move at the rear of the lot.

    1. Appears to be more across from the indoor football practice facility. Hopefully the purchase includes extra parking there.
