Tom and Terrilynn JurichTom and Terrilynn Jurich are celebrating 15 years in the Ville.

We wondered what a new athletic director could really do for the University of Louisville when Tom Jurich was hired in 1997. We had no idea of how much he would accomplish.

A man who played football at the University of Louisville in 1949 told Tom Jurich last week at a fan club meeting that he never dreamed the University would have such nice athletic facilities, never in a 100 years. The man asked Jurich if he had surprised himself with such dramatic progress.

“It is kind of amazing, and I can’t take credit for all that has happened,” said Jurich. “This community wants the best for the University of Louisville and the resources and people were there. I glad I played a role in pulling those resources together.

“Am I satisfied with what we’ve been able to do. No. Whatever we build, I want it to be the best. When people look at our athletic facilities, I want them to say ‘Wow!’ We had the support from the community and the university to make some good things happen. And  there so much more to do.

“I love this community, and Terrilynn loves it, too. There’s nowhere I would rather be.”
