Texas Christian University has accepted an invitation for full membership into the Big East Conference.

TCU will become the 17th conference member on July 1, 2012, with athletic teams competing in the 2012-13 academic year. With an enrollment of 9,142 in Fort Worth, TCU competes in 20 sports.

“Our membership is genuinely excited to add an institution of the caliber of TCU to our Conference,” stated Big East Conference Commissioner John Marinatto.  “Located in one of the top five media markets in the country, TCU also enables the BIG EAST to extend its media footprint, which already encompasses more than a quarter of the country.”

“The addition of TCU ensures that the Big East will continue to remain one of the nation’s premier athletic conferences well into the future,” stated John I. Jenkins, president of Notre Dame and chairman of the Big East CEO executive committee.

Probably the most surprising thing about the announcement is that Notre Dame’s president is chairman of the Big East’s executive committee.

  1. Out with ND PLEASE! Wash our hands of that Conference raiding (coaches and bowls) media darling once and for all!

  2. That’s great to hear TCU will be joining the BIG EAST. I only hope that the BIG EAST get to keep their automatic bid to the BCS when TCU joins the league. You know there are a lot of BIG EAST football bashers out there.

  3. Please Please Please Kick out ND. We (the Big East) do not need them. The only thing of value they have is their Football team. The only thing not associated with the Big East? Their Football team. Their BB team has gained good publicity from the Big East’s BB prowess which has helped their recruiting. What have they done for us? Let some other conference support their other sports.

Rant done. The other team I would be in favor of cutting loose since ND probably will not be is Depaul. Their teams are not good unless they are good at a smaller sport I have not noticed. Curling? Seriously does anyone know of any reason why they should be allowed to stay?
