The first time most University of Louisville fans saw Reece Gaines, he was waving to them from a balcony at the Howard Schnellenberger Complex at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium during a spring football game.

The other memory is of Gaines hitting three 3-pointers in the final 32 seconds to lift the UofL basketball team to a 73-72 miracle comeback win over Tennesee  in December 2001.

Gaines is returning to Louisville to be an assistant coach to Scotty Davenport at Bellarmine, assisting in all facets of the program. Davenport, of course, was an assistant when Gaines was at UofL.

His NBA resume includes being drafted in the first round by the Orlando Magic in 2003, and later stints with the Houston Rockets, and the Milwaukee Bucks.
