The beard, what there is of it, isn’t coming along very well for Rick Pitino.
More scruffy than substance, obviously a disappointment so far for the University of Louisville basketball coach. A mix of gray, yellowish brown and a few dark shadows. Word is he’s thinking about have some black coloring added.
The coach may want to consider the Mohawk look the next time he’s feeling a little loose, wanting to have fun while cultivating some team unity.
During his pre-game press conference Monday, the would-be bearded wonder spent little time addressing South Florida, the upcoming opponent on Tuesday, speaking only generally.
“With this league, and college basketball in general, you really have no idea how an opponent will play,” he said. “What you have to do is stay focused, try and take away their strengths, and try to make sure you’re clicking on all cylinders.”
Pitino did have some thoughts about social media he wanted to get off his chest, none of it good.
“I think anybody in sports who reads social media is not all there,” he said. “To me, it’s the great class of underachievers who live on the Internet and social media. I think it’s people who waste their time, and underachieve because they’re not paying attention to what they should be.
“It’s not because I’m against certain facets of social media, because I’m not, but much of it is insulting. Why would you do that when you could be reading valuable things?”
The coach obviously has better things to do with his time, and more friends and followers than he can count, but he’s not following or friending anybody on Facebook, Twitter or whatever’s coming next.
Rip: If you have listened to Pitino much, you will admit that use/overuse of social media is one of his biggest pet peeves. This wasn’t his first rant about it. Whether it was out of context is actually irrelevant as Pitino used the original question as a springboard to launch into one of his frequent laments. Go Cards!
So, I’m guessing that I can’t friend Rick or get friended by him? I may go into an inconsolable depression.
Comments about the social media are totally taken out of context. He was speaking about particular situations where players have dealt with racist comments on various social media threads. What a poor, poor piece of journalism this article is. Of course, I wouldn’t expect anything less from Fox News.
First, this is not Fox News, but I take it as a compliment. You probably meant Fox Sports which also did a story. Pitino said what he said and I doubt he is apologizing. Context had nothing to do with his remarks, they are as he stated them.
