Pick The Soap Opera Winner
By Sonja Sykes
Should be more than enough suspense and drama surrounding Louisville football to again pack Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
- All the supposition has transformed this Saturday’s game against Southern Mississippi into one of the season’s more fascinating events. Some believe this may be Steve Kragthorpe’s last game. Others are pretty certain he’s here till the season ends. Very few expect him back next year.
- As usual going into a Kragthorpe-coached game, there are big unknowns. Who will quarterback, for example. Justin Burke or Adam Froman? How many of the players will be inexplicably missing. Will freshman red shirts be burned prematurely? Will the players be pumped knowing their coach is under extreme fire?
Since I am a 4-0 in Louisville football predictions this season, I’m making the pick this week. I think the Cards win 28-27 in a wild and woolley game in which the last team with the ball wins. Paul, my other half, the one with a measly 2-2 record, is also going with Louisville, optimistically, 31-14.
Will the Cards will show up? Pick the winner.

I hate to say this but I figure we lose even if it takes another Hail Mary Bounce off the Helmet to doom us.
Southern Miss 27-13
Southern Mississippi wins 21-7
Louisville 17-14
Damage control by SID, primarily for players IMO
Strangely emotional wording by Kenny–who is the Bball guy BTW. Rocco is the football SID guy….?
U of L 17 – 7
u of l 31 so miss 28
Kenny is SID for all sports. Rocco is the assistant SID for football.
Cards don’t disappoint on homecoming.
Hoist one for me, Paulie
UofL 20
Southern Miss 17
23-10 U of L. Call me a dreamer, but what the heck!
And congrats to Sonja. Her 28-27 Cardinal forecast was closest. She is a dominating 5-0 this season in picks and the beauty of it all is that she couldn’t care less.
