Packers Recover Bears’ Bobble

A collective holding of the breath occurs among U of L fans as the Chicago Bears prepare to announce their selection in the second round of the NFL draft.

If any team badly needs a talented quarterback, it is the Chicago Bears. The Bears have been talking with Briaprod1 Packers Recover Bears Bobblen Brohm, hinting, nodding, winking, evoking speculation among the analysts. There is Brohm on ESPN watching TV intently as the Bears prepare to make the 44th pick in the NFL draft.

The Bears choose a running back instead.

They blow it. Badly. Blow an opportunity to get a quarterback who can manage a football team, with the arm and ability to make good things happen at Soldier Field.

Twelve picks later the Green Bay Packers make the smart move, selecting Brohm as the 56th pick in the draft.

The Bears will regret their decision, at least twice annually, because the U of L grad is destined to be the Packers’ starting quarterback.

Don’t rush him into it, don’t let it happen too soon. Nobody wants to be the player who takes over the season after Bret Favre retires. Carry the clipboard for a while. Don’t get beat up the first season. Learn the ropes. Ease in gradually.

Green Bay is a great franchise, and it’s going to be fun watching Brohm become the man.

Make them pay.

  1. Great post Charlie and I say ditto to every point you made.  I don’t know anything about Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay’s heir apparent, but I do know about Brian Brohm and GB has lucked into one of the best QB’s in the game.  Where is my cheesehead?  I’m set to root for the green and gold-ish - just as soon as Brian trots onto the field.  I hope our other Cardinals get their shot tomorrow….Go Cards !

  2. oops - Tom didn’t make the last entry - that would be me.  Sorry.

  3. There’s a reason Green Bay is the best franchise in the NFL, the brains behind the team. They have made a wise decision and will be handsomely rewarded for it.

  4. Like you, I am a Bears’ fan. They really hurt themselves by not picking Brohm. Their quarterbacks are pathetic.

  5. A dream come true: Play quarterback for the Green Bay Packers and get paid to do it.

Remember the ABA: The First Slam-Dunk Contest

In 1976, the ABA was desperately trying to force a merger with the NBA. To garner publicity, the league was determined to make a splash at its last All-Star game.

An entire weekend of events was created. But it was one innovation that created an indelible impression.
