Perfect day for football for everybody but the University of Louisville football team.

An angry Charlie Strong indicated that his team was still celebrating a win over Kentucky two weeks ago, enjoying all those pats on the back. Beat that big bad Kentucky team they did, showering the coach with Gatorade afterward.

Turned a corner for the program by beating UK. Yeah, leaving the bad old days behind them.

Perfect day for football, beautiful skies, 53,276 fans, third largest in stadium history.

Great turnout for Card March, fans lining up six deep from the bus to the stadium. The gladiators arriving, slapping hands with their drooling fans. Who’s next to the slaughter?

Marshall is on the train track in the path of the locomotive, train whistles blowing, fireworks exploding, Medal of Honor winners on hand, Ernest West making the coin toss, even Trace Adkins singing the National Anthem.

The stage was set. All the U of L football team had to do was show up.

Or so they believed, these young guys. No passion, little fight, minimal intensity.

“Wasn’t anything Marshall did,” seethed Strong. “It’s what we didn’t do.”

Players still not believing they lost to Marshall. May never admit it.

Dreading tomorrow, however. Hell week straight ahead.

  1. Kind of hard to get away from that UKant victory when you have some fans in the line at CardMarch saying “Way to kick Kentucky’s ass.” I heard my cousin and along with many others yelling that exact phrase.

  2. Dominique Brown. Six carries. 14 yards. What is up with that? Gotta call #10 more than that, Mr. Strong

  3. Go Herd!!!!

Seriously though, you guys sure were gracious hosts. We’ll return the favor when you guys make the trip to Huntington in a few years.
