Too much magic in this University of Louisville basketball team for Pittsburgh to pull a rabbit out of the hat at the KFC Yum! Center in that final half second.

How did U of L beat a Pittsburgh team 62-59 in overtime, a team that outrebounds, outshoots and outmuscles everybody in sight?  Pitt outhitting Louisville from the field, 41.5% – 33.8%, collecting more free throws 11-10, and coming down with more rebounds 37-36.

Expecting to win, refusing to lose, and employing a defense that keeps getting better and better.

And the obvious choice for Coach of the Year in Rick Pitino.

A potent combination.

  1. Here’s a little fuel to help light Louisville’s fire (as if they need it) when/if the Cards meet Pitt in the Big East tournament:

Ashton Gibbs Calls Louisville ‘Bums’ on Twitter After Pittsburgh Loss

Ashton Gibbs immediately took to his Twitter account after the game and called Rick Pitino and company bums.
He followed that statement with a graceful, “F*** it. On to the next.”

Damage control began almost immediately, with three consecutive tweets that read, “I apologize if my tweet offended any players, coaches, friends, or family members of the Louisville basketball program. I consider myself a competitor and we were outplayed tonight in a heated battle between two top Big East teams. I wish them the best on the rest of their season and we look forward to redeeming ourselves next game. Let’s go Pitt.”

Sounds like he wrote it, huh? Definitely had nothing to do with Pitt’s PR department.

    1. Would speak well of the PR people at Pitt if they had thought to word it as if a player said it. As it stands it is as obviously manufactured as Gene Keady’s combover.

  2. Anyone catch CCS at the game? He was jumping up and down cheering like the biggest cardinal fan on the planet! Good thing he didnt storm the court else we’d still be waiting for that ball to come down! Now if only we can get him to talk Coach P into showing up and giving the FB program the same love and support!
Man I just love that man! Heres to you CCS! Cheers!

  3. My fingernails were showing ware of nail biting. Once again – the Cards did their thing and won.
I got so nervous when Mike made the basket and the celebration started-
the whole technical foul was a scream fest for Pitino and I couldn’t blame him. I screamed too! So glad they stayed the course.
