The University of Louisville is guaranteed to immediately get the attention of exceptional football players if one name on the hot list is circled by Tom Jurich.

  • How about a person who has served as an assistant to three coaches — Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz — while their teams were winning national championships?
  • How about someone who has been involved most of his coaching career in helping to recruit top 10 recruiting classes?
  • How about a coach whose name is on the tongue every high school football mentor in Florida?
  • Not that any school outside of Florida is going to out-recruit Florida, Florida State or Miami, but the state exports almost as many good football players as it does oranges.
  • High school seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen, Pop Warner, PeeWee, they’re already on his speed dial list.

That would be one Charlie Strong, currently residing in Gainesville as defensive coordinator for the nation’s No. 1 football team.

  1. I like Charlie Strong a lot. I really do think he is the best choice for Louisville at this time. The only thing I’m worried about is what kind of offense he will bring in. I think Louisville football needs to have an entertaining offense to draw the crowds and succeed. In this town, college sports is more about entertainment than school loyalty. If the product on the field is not entertaining, people will tend to go elsewhere with their dollars. That’s just the way it is around here.

    1. 23,000 people care more about school loyalty than entertainment and there’s several out of state fans like myself who would love to attend every game. Winning will bring the crowds, the only thing an entertaining offense will do is keep them in their seats longer against Arkansas State. Any win over a Big East or rival team is entertainment enough as long as the players are competitive.
