Without a doubt, one of the best Christmases ever, wanted the spirit of December 25th to go on and on.

Never going to happen but it is heartening to see much of the world stop and reflect on family and other important things for a few days. A long time between seasons, small wonder people make such a fuss about the holidays. A good time to draw loved ones close, letting them know they are appreciated.

Among other things, the observer found an NCAA championship plaque and a University of Louisville “man cave” sign beneath the tree, along with a retro Chicago Bears hoodie and a book about the 1985 Super Bowl champs. The big surprise came from my brother-in-law, a UK fan, in the form of a dramatic 3 x 4-foot blowup of the Louisville skyline with the KFC Yum! Center in the foreground.

Sadly, the Christmas music around the clock about the house and in the car will no longer be tolerated. All the Christmas goodies, including the turkey, the divinity, the fruit cake and the chocolate chips will have been consumed. The tree and all the decorations will come down. What won’t disappear, however, are the memories, and hope for the a new year.

Our focus now shifts to the upcoming weekend where so much are on the line for the UofL football and basketball, providing about five or six straight hours of non-stop action on Saturday. What a day that’s going to be for Louisville fans of both sports. Two wins would make this a perfect week.
