Anthony Allen, once a promising University of Louisville running back, is doing well in his first season after transferring to Georgia Tech to play football. Very well, in fact, with 579 yards rushing and averaging 10.3 yards per carry, including five touchdowns.

The Tampa Bay native quickly adjusted in Atlanta, scoring on an 82-yard run in his team’s 30-27 win over Clemson in game two.

As for his time at U of L, as related by the Tampa Tribune:

“His two seasons at Louisville were successful (23 touchdowns in 25 games, including two in the 2007 Orange Bowl game). In fact, he set the school’s single-game rushing record with 275 yards against Middle Tennessee in 2007.

But somewhere during the coaching transition – from Bobby Petrino to Steve Kragthorpe – Allen fell out of favor.

Coach Kragthorpe said they wanted a different type of back. He wasn’t what they were looking for.

Kragthorpe’s plans never got going at Louisville (he was fired this week). Meanwhile, Allen has been a perfect fit at Georgia Tech, even last season while sitting out because of the transfer.”

You can do the math.

  1. Stayed in the team hotel for the Pitt game and it seemed that about every other player that I saw had dreadlocks. I agree that it was probably just a running back type preference.

  2. My wife and I have 1,000 reasons we don’t like Kragthorpe. And we are aware of his running Allen off. We have heard it revolved around Kragthorpes obsession with smaller backs of the scat back variety.

But as for cutting the hair, we wonder. It seems Kragthorpe let Victor Anderson keep his dreadlocks. God, I hate being in the possible position of defending Kragthorpe.

  3. He’ll just have to transfer back to U of L….just kidding !!! Love the kid. I’m so glad he is doing so well now. Too bad what Krapthorpe did to him but he landed on his feet and that’s a good thing. Go CARDS!

  4. I actually live in Tampa, and know a girl who is family friends with anthony. She said he told her that Krags told him that he could either transfer, or he could “cut his hair” and then “maybe” ride the bench and that he wouldn’t be playing. He said krags was very mean to him for no reason so he transfered.

  5. IMO, this was the absolute biggest blunder in Krag’s dossier, was letting Allen get away.

Every time I see him on the SportsCenter Top 10 tearing shit up, I feel my teeth clench.

As a side note as a HUGE Allen fan, he is a black belt in karate as well. Takes a lot of discipline to get to that level, so I don’t want to hear that “he wasn’t doing it the right way” nonsense.

Just thank God that Krag is finally gone,

    And bring on Charlie Strong!
