Believe it or not, the rest of the Cardinal athletic program has continued to advance while the basketball teams were pursuing their Final Four dreams:

Dan McDonnell’s baseball team is 14-9 and the Cards have entered the more interesting part of their schedule. After a game at Western Kentucky Tuesday, U of L hosts Purdue Wednesday at 6 at Jim Patterson Stadium, followed by games against St. John’s Friday (6 p.m.), Saturday (4 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.). On Monday, the Cards travel to Lexington for a 6 p.m. game against Kentucky, ranked No. 8 nationally with a 22-4 record.

The Cards are powered by Justin McClanahan, hitting .424, Chris Dominguez, .370, and Jeff Arnold, .344. Dominguez has seven home runs, Dominguez five. Pitchers Justin Marks and Zach Pitts are 2-0 and 4-2, respectively.

Five games have canceled or postponed because of inclement weather.
