Basketball Attendance
Currently the University of Louisville basketball team plays its home game in Freedom Hall, which was completed in 1956. The facility has served as the site of six NCAA Final Fours, including 1958, 1959, 1962, 1963, 1967 and 1969.
When Freedom Hall opened in 1957, the seating capacity was 16, 613 and was considered the state of the art. The facility was renovated in 1984 with capacity expanded to almost 19,000 seats. The $13 million renovation included the addition of 24 luxury boxes and a $1 million scoreboard.
U of L will move to a new $236 million downtown arena beginning the 2010-11 basketball season with a capacity of 22,000 seats and 84 luxury boxes.
U of L played before 349,142 fans in 18 games during the 2008-09 season, averaging 19,397 fans, the fifth highest attendance in college basketball.
