Asia Coming to Louisville?

By Sonja

With the mega hours of Olympic television coverage lately, we’re all getting more familiar with the Pacific Rim and the Chinese influence on sports. Fourteen years old is actually 16 in China, and taking a dive is a Chinese specialty.

Jeff Walz and the Lady Cards are hoping they’ll get a call from Asia. Not the continent, but from Asia Taylor, a 6-1 senior forward from Columbus, Ohio, Whetstone. She’s one of the best in the state, and would be a key commitment for the freshman class of 2009.

Asia averaged 21.7 pts. a game as a junior and also played AAU ball for the Ohio Glory this summer. She says the AAU stint made her a much better player, and experts consider her a strong candidate for Ohio Player of the Year and the top five in the state.

Louisville isn’t the only major college vying for her services. Cincinnati, Florida State, Kansas, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska and Ohio State are also her list.

She  was said to be contemplating announcing her decision today, which also happens to be her birthday.

Steer clear of the Big 10, Asia. Land in the Cardinal bird nest. We would even toss in extra eggrolls and duck sauce if we didn’t think it would violate NCAA rules. Hey, and Happy Birthday, too!

UPDATE: No official word on whether the call came or not but you know somebody was there to answer the phone.

  1. Sonja,

I truly enjoy reading your reports on women’s sports–and your own personal anecdotes.

  2. Thanks, Frankpos! Charlie helps me a lot with editing and it’s due to him that the articles come out looking good. My hubby helps, too..with his proofreading and encouragement…as I’ve said before without his extensive knowledge of sports and contacts around the area, I wouldn’t know nearly as much about Cardinal sports and the great people we’ve met.
