Angel McCoughtry would have been remembered as the all-time best female player at the University of Louisville even without her record-setting 43-point game in an 81-49 win over Providence on Saturday. She also earned the distinction as U of L’s all-time leading scorer, raising her point total to 2,373. The Lady Cards are now 20-2 overall and 7-1 in the Big East, and face Syracuse Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Freedom Hall. More Lady Card photos available at SportsPageMagazine.

  1. Sharon,

Thanks for coming to visit the board. I can’t tell you how much fun it has been following your daughter’s career these past four years. When she graduates, it’ll feel like losing one of my own daughters from the nest. She is a shining example of what is right in college sports and academics these days. There will never be another like her here at UofL and I know she’ll be a success in whatever field she goes into after college and the WNBA. Maybe we’ll see her on the sidelines again someday as a coach. I can tell you this…this city, program and fans will never forget her. Her devotion to team and high acheivements are attributes that all young people would do well to emulate.

Thanks, Mom…for raising such a beautiful soul and person. We were most honored to have this Angel amongst us these past four years.

  2. We could not have been more happy that our daughter chose the University of Louisville to pursue her college career. We were worried at first because she was so far from home but The University, the fans, the town has embraced our daughter and because of that she has been very successful at UofL, we her parents Roi and Sharon McCoughtry want to thank everyone for your support and show of love to her. Where did the four years go.

    GO CARDS!

    GO CARDS!

  3. Agreed, Mom. The best thing about it is that she has remained humble and focused on team performance as long as she has been a Card. In this era of chest-thumping, me first theatrics in the men’s game, Angel has flown to the top by being a protective mama bird Cardinal, providing for the rest of the nest and battling just like a protective cardinal bird does when their area is trespassed by a predator or other winged animal. We often watch the cardinal birds in our front yard, bustling around our property and nesting in the blue spruces of our front yard, and it always makes me think of how proud I am of those Cardinals in Louisville.

We are very proud of you Angel, and thank you for the wonderful years you’ve given the Lady Cards. Let’s hope the best is yet to come.

  4. 2373 and growing. Nine game at the very least left. The leading career scorer in the history of basketball at the University of Louisville. Simply the best. The heart and soul of the Lady Cards. If you need to put * by it…or if you need to point out that men’s and women’s basketball aren’t the same and can’t be compared….please, just take it to Cats Pause or bring it up at your next Society of Cro-mags convention. She has scored more points than anyone who has ever played basketball at UofL. And, she ain’t done yet.
