“Among the 68 teams that made it to this year’s NCAA basketball tournament, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski was the second-highest paid coach with more than $4 million in compensation. Only Louisville’s Rick Pitino was higher than Coach K with a pay package topping $7.5 million. Among the Final Four teams, Kentucky’s John Calipari was the highest with about $3.9 million in pay.”   Triangle Business Journal

  1. For that kind of money we should have a coach who can teach guys how to make free throws. We lost four games including the BE tourney loss to UConn and the Morehead game because we can’t shoot free throws.

    1. I believe the total includes a one-time $3.5 million staying at Louisville bonus. But even if it’s “only” $4 million, there should be an ability to teach free throws. Terrence Jennings seems to be the only one who has taken to the lessons, but he is far from being a good free throw shooter as we all know.

      1. I cannot believe I am saying this but I would trust him at clutch time (see Marquette Miracle) more than Siva, Justice, or Marra all of whom have failed to put away games.

  2. Over paid? No way. Louisville just had the best bridge season in the history of the NCAA! We also got to watch Pitino spend just about the entire tournament roaming around the ESPN and CBS studios. Completely worth $7.5 million.

    1. that’s a very expensive first round exit for what he’s getting paid he should atleast bring in a top 5 recruiting class every year he gotta earn that salary instead of just collecting
