Not much to be learned from the University of Louisville basketball team’s 73-54 sleeper over Seton Hall.

Between the yawns, however, are glimpses of George Goode and Stephen Van Treese throwing their bodies around, neither of them timid, okay with the physical aspects of the game.

Goode with a half decent 12-foot shot, six points, three rebounds in 10 minutes. Enjoying the game, having fun.

Van Treese five offensive rebounds, five defensive. Swaggering, lumbering down the court, best to stay out of his way.

Big guys clogging up the middle, making the effort, bothering people, wearing on them.

Between them, only one minute of playing time in the fiasco against Kentucky. Wondering if maybe they could have contributed in some way.

  1. Pitino fired ? I don’t think so. The university had a chance to do so and didn’t. That tells you something right there. So was this person on a blog or something?
You are right we should not brush off a win.

  2. I realize we were playing a lesser opponent last night, but seeing Goode and SVT perform like they did only makes the uk loss sting that much more. Steve, you aren’t the only one wondering why they sat the bench while Jennings gave the team nothing. I have no problem admitting that uk was the more talented team this year and playing Goode and SVT might not have changed the outcome. Still no reason to not give them a shot though when it was pretty obvious to everyone watching the game what was going on underneath. Puzzling decision by CRP to say the least.

Still, this was a good win by the Cards to open Big East play. Hopefully they can build off of this and make some noise in the conference. I hope Goode, Dieng and SVT all continue to see more minutes and Jennings finds a nice, comfy spot next to Rick.

  3. Please be happy with a win and stop criticizing players and everybody(not specific to this post) give the fire pitino crap a break. I am 100% behind this TEAM and Coach P and Staff. This team is great because they play together and believe in each other.

  4. Check how many rebounds our little guys got. Then check how many Jennings got. It seems his career has only one gear, and that is reverse.

  5. It seemed their guards were solid and as Pitino put it they need to embrace a deep passion for the game. He also referenced he enjoys coaching this year with this team…
He has some diamonds in the rough but a needs a little more time to polish them up.
